Rules and regulations

  1. The “ONAM Pookkalam” competition will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM at New Railway Colony Community Hall, Sabarmati Ward, (Powerhouse-D Cabin Road)

  2. The event is an inter-ward competition and only one team from one ward is allowed to participate. There is no registration fee.

  3. Each team may have maximum 5 members. (Minimum 2 ladies preferred in a team).

  4. Participating teams should bring flowers and all the other items required for the competition.

  5. Apart from flowers, teams may use traditional items like “Nilavilakku”, Thrikkakkarayappan” for pookkalam but not colour powder/salt etc. Such items may not be considered for judgment.

  6. Participants may bring pookalam design, photos etc to be used as visual aids.

  7. Teams are requested to be present at the venue at 1.30 PM. The pookkalam should be prepared in two hours which include time for drawing and arranging flowers. Judgment will be done at 04.15 PM onwards.

  8. The floral carpets (pookkalams) can be circular or square, but the length and breadth should not exceed 25 sq ft(5ft length x 5ft breadth). Jury will make judgement only for this area. Anything kept outside for beautification or any value addition will not be considered

  9. Prizes will be decided based on various factors that include harmony of colours, colour combination, shapes, design, innovation, quality, beauty, creativity, variety of flowers used, originality of design and neatness of the pookkalam etc..

  10. Judgement of Jury shall be binding and final. Prizes will be awarded for first and second places.

  11. Prizes will be distributed in same venue and the same will be published in the AKS newsletter.

  12. Participating teams will not be given any reimbursement including cost of procuring flowers, conveyence or any other materials.

  13. For registration call or contact Mr. Manoj Kumar K, Convener/ Arts Secretary(9376134222). The last date for the registration will be 13th August 2010. Names of the team members should be given in advance.

  14. AKS resereves the right to make appropriate changes, if required, regarding the Pookkalam competition.

NB : Leaves may be used, if it is necessary for the design, but restricted to minimum quantity.
